Environmental & Sustainability Policy
Sasquatch Crossing Eco Lodge is a Sts'ailes owned and operated business and as such, must follow our foremost traditional teaching which states:
"This is our land; we have to take care of everything in it!"
To demonstrate our commitment to sustainability we are undertaking the following actions to ensure we adhere to our elder’s teachings:
- We comply with the requirements of environmental legislation and approved codes of practice
- We continuously seek to improve our environmental and social performance
- We reduce pollution, emissions, and waste
- We reduce the use of energy, water, and other resources
- We raise awareness, encourage participation, and train employees in sustainable practices
- We expect similar environmental standards from all suppliers and contractors
- We assist customers to use products and services in an environmentally sensitive way
- We partner with our neighboring communities to take part in local initiatives which benefit our wildlife and natural surroundings
- We have minimized our risks associated with social and environmental issues
- We have joined Green Tourism Canada as a measure of our sustainable practices and have attained a Silver rating at our most recent audit
Additional Information:
- Whenever possible the foods we serve are locally grown or sourced
- We use zero non-organic fertilizers or pesticides on the 87 acre property and cleaning supplies are “eco” friendly certified
- 95% of lighting is LED, we practice full recycling and operate our own 19Kw Hydro Electric Plant which supplies all power and heating to the facility 10 months of the year
- We utilize flow-restricted shower heads/faucets and provide dual-flush toilets, all irrigation and pool water is “collected” for reuse downstream of Hydro Electric system operation with additional flows bypassed back into Pretty Creek.
- Operate our high-efficiency boiler during coldest periods only.
- Along with Sts’ailes and Sq'éwlets First Nations and others groups and individuals, are founding members of the Harrison River Stronghold and support local artists, artisans and numerous local charities (list available upon request)
- Our potable (domestic) water receives regular testing and is pumped from our well deep in the Chehalis River aquifer. It is some of the purest on the planet and customers are asked to refrain from bringing disposable water bottles to the B&B
